Vigilante arrests spark protest at Hillcrest Police station

Angry relatives crowded into the Hillcrest Police station this morning.

Relatives of 14 people arrested last night for the murder of a KwaNyuswa resident have gone to the Hillcrest Police Station today (14 October) to find out why their family members are being held.

Following the discovery of a body on Saturday morning (11 October) and another body on Monday, 13 October, police went into KwaNyuswa and arrested the 14 people believed to be involved in a mob killing of one of the deceased.

Lt France Mkhize, Hillcrest Police Station media liaison officer said at this stage there was no evidence linking the two murders.

“The relatives want to know why they are being held. Those arrested will be detained until such time as they can be charged. Police are still investigating the matter,” said Mkhize.
