DA Youth raise funds for rape victims

More than R1500 was raised by the DA Youth League for the Jes Foord Foundation through the sale of raffle tickets.

THE DA Youth of West Durban raised more than R1500 for the Jes Foord Foundation through the sale of raffle tickets over a two-month period.

The raffle, which the DA Youth ran from August, Women’s Month, until the end of September, involved selling R5 tickets to the public in an effort to raise much needed funds for the foundation. Residents that took part in the raffle stood a chance to win one of the three prizes; a handmade blanket, a beautiful antique vase or luxurious cushions. The winners were drawn by Jes Foord and all of the money collected from the raffle was donated to the Jes Foord Foundation.

Luke Waltham, the DA Youth Representative of West Durban, said that the reason they wanted the Jes Foord Foundation to be the beneficiary of the funds was because the foundation focused on assisting and counseling those who have been raped and they are aiming to decrease the level of rape in our country. “We, as the DA Youth, believe that we must support a foundation such as JFF as they are making an incredible impact in our community and are assisting so many people who have been raped.”

Jes Foord, the founder and CEO of the Jes Foord Foundation, thanked the group for their hard work. “It is always encouraging to see the youth of today stepping forward to help those in need, I would like to thank the DA Youth for their contribution”.
