Highway stalwart laid to rest

Obituary for Melody Morris.

THE Kloof community is in mourning after Melody Morris, who ran a very successful recycling programme at Kloof Senior Primary, involving many businesses in the Highway area, died on Friday 19 September.

Melody Morris was an integral part of the Kloof Senior Primary School family for 23 years. She was at her station early every morning to meet the pupils and their parents, who were as passionate about taking care of the environment as she was.

Another parent at the school got Melody involved in the recycling project as a way to raise funds for the school. In the first year R1800 was raised. The project now generates between R25 000 to R28 000 per year.

Since recycling began at the school it has grown in leaps and bounds as attitudes and motivation to take part in the project have completely changed.

Melody was also instrumental in the school winning R50 000 for being the top glass collecting school in South Africa.

Recycling took place from Tuesdays to Thursdays and she would arrive at the school at 6.45am ad would leave at 8.15am after the recycling area had been cleared and tidied up. She would then travel to various companies in the Highway area and pick up recycling which she would then take back to the school. She also did this on Saturdays and Sundays.

The Kloof Senior Primary School family sends their deepest condolences to Melody’s husband, Paddy, and their children at this very sad time.
