Sanele May to submit plea bargain

The Field's Hill crash truck driver was in tears at his court appearance today.

SANELE May, the driver of the truck that ploughed through five vehicles at the bottom of Field’s Hill last year, will remain in police custody until his plea bargain is submitted on 10 October.

May seemed confident as he entered the courtroom at the Durban High Court this morning, but broke down in tears before judge Esther Steyn appeared.

The state attorney, Alistair Walters, asked that the case be adjourned until Friday 10 October when the plea bargain documents would be finalised. May’s defense attorney, Louis Barnard, will submit the relevant plea bargain documents on Tuesday 23 September.

Steyn noted that there were a number of requirements that needed to be fulfilled before the plea bargain could be finalised. She said time was needed and the case was adjourned.

May left the courtroom with his head held low as he was taken back into custody.
