Westville Cares Day reinvented

Local businesses to thank community for its support at Westville Cares Day on Wednesday 24 September.

THE Rotary Club of Westville has reinvented Westville Cares Day, which takes place on Heritage Day, Wednesday 24 September.

Instead of asking the community to assist the club with any projects on the day, the club is inviting the community to a day of fun for the whole family.

The Rotary Club of Westville, together with Westville Community, has arranged for local businesses to come together and give back to the community that supports them. The activities on this day are all sponsored by local businesses. It is their way of saying thank you for your support throughout the year. There is no entrance fee to the day, and free activities will be available for adults as well as kiddies.

The main event of the day starts at 9.30am at the Jimmy Bellows Field in Link Road, Westville. This is a 5km fun run/walk that ends back at Jimmy Bellows as well. This is overseen by Rotary Westville’s official Comrades table 41 convenor, Geoff Dawson.

Geoff has many years’ experience with the Comrades Marathon. Entry to this fun event is R20 for adults and R10 for children under 16.

All children under 18 will need to be accompanied by an adult – or have an adult sign off their entry form. Prizes will be awarded in various categories and again, this is all in good fun, and the token prize kitty is not designed to attract professional runners for a high payment prize.

A local deejay will provide music throughout the day, and food and refreshments will be available from the food court at nominal prices.

All proceeds will go towards supporting the local Westville Community Policing Forum (WCPF), which works closely with the Westville Police Station in making Westville a safe and happy suburb to live in. The Rotary Club of Westville has separately and independently donated towards the building of offices for the WCPF at the police station as soon as plans are passed for this.

Take along the children, gran and gramps, and of course dad with his wallet and have a wonderful fun filled day of entertainment for everyone, and all for a good cause.

Westville Old Boys’ Club (WOB) have sponsored their venue for the day and will run their normal bar through the day. There is loads of guarded parking at the venue.

The Rotary Club thanked the businesses that have already come on board to provide a variety of no-charge entertainment. If any other local business wants to come on board still, and provide some entertainment to the Westville Community at no charge, you can contact Debra Maddocks on 072 995 5075. In return you can market your brand or company on the day. Entry forms for the fun run/walk are available from Debra and Geoff Dawson on 082 453 2829.
