Bingo application causes uproar in Queensburgh

It's still possible to stop the installation of electronic betting terminals in Queensburgh.

OBJECTIONS for the installation of 150 electronic betting terminals in Queensburgh will officially close on Friday 19 September.

The KwaZulu-Natal gaming and betting board held a public meeting today at the Queensburgh Town hall and just over 40 members of the public showed up to raise their concerns and object the proposals.

According to the chair of the board, Sibusisiwe Zulu, the applicants already have bingo hall licenses and have now applied for special consent to actually install the electronic bingo machines in the said bingo halls.

The two proposed bingo halls are both in close proximity to schools as well as places of worship. One is located on Purity Lane, directly opposite Queensburgh Girls’ High School and the other at the South Way mall.

The board noted objections by all those present and invited all those who were not in attendance to send their objections and concerns in writing to ebtapplications@kzngbb.org.za by Friday 19 September.

Thereafter, the board will look at all grievances before making the final verdict as to whether or not the applicants are granted permission to install electronic betting terminals in Queensburgh.
