Ulwazi Hammarsdale festival to give back to community

Businessman, Bongani Mabizela is giving back to his childhood community.

The Ulwazi Group in partnership with the Hammarsdale community is staging the Ulwazi Hammarsdale festival on 27 September in the Mpumalanga Stadium Precinct field in Hammarsdale.

This event is the brainchild of Ulwazi Group Executive Chairman and Founder, Bongani Mabizela, who hails from Hammarsdale and grew up in Mpumalanga Township.

As a highly respected business man with a successful and growing company that employs more than 1500 people nationwide, his dream was to give back to the community that has always been close to his heart.

Ulwazi group won the BBQ 2013 “Best Employer” Award. Mr Mabizela won the BBQ 2013 “Businessman of the Year” Award and in 2014 won the Oliver Award for “ Top Entrepreneur”. He recently won the “Indondo Award for Community Upliftment” 2014.

“The aim and vision of the festival is to empower and enrich people, to promote peace and democracy through arts, culture, beauty, sports and entertainment within the community by creating a sustainable annual festival in the greater Hammarsdale area that will encourage a sense of oneness and a spirit of Ubuntu,” said Mabizela.

The Ulwazi Music Festival will start at 2pm with local Hammarsdale artists, followed by well known National Artists later in the programme. Artists include: L’vovo, Monaco, DJ Happy Gal, and Mzulu.

The finals of the Mr and Miss Hammarsdale pageant will take place at 7pm. The pre-judging took place earlier in the year, at the Hammarsdale Junction Shopping Mall where 24 men and women were selected as finalists.

“The aim is to identify two worthy young people who will serve as role models and ambassadors for the Ulwazi Group and the Hammarsdale community. Young adults to whom their peers can look up to,” said Mabizela.

All 24 contestants will visit four disadvantaged families and one school in Hammarsdale to distribute food parcels, gifts and clothing.

The production of the pageant will done by Decamm Productions, and will be filmed for television broadcast.

Great prizes are on offer and the two winners will each win R100,000 to further their studies at an institution of their choice. Judges include: Cindy Mabizela – Co-Founder of Ulwazi Group and the Celebrity Judges for the Pageant include Generations stars: Zolisa “Jason” Xaluva (Generations) , Melusi “Dr. Pat” Yeni (Muvhango), Xoli “Zodwa” Zondi (Generations) and Siyabonga “ Mpiyakhe Zungu” Twala. (“Isibaya”).

MCs for the event are Bennie Langa from “After Party “fame and “DJ Chilli M” from Ukhozi FM.

Tickets are on sale from the Themba Lamambo Store which is located next to the stadium from Monday, 15 September. Tickets are R15 for scholars under 13 and R30 for adults (13 and over).
