UKZN strike: Two injured at Westville campus

Police and private security companies are still at the scene.

Paramedics on scene of the protests at the Westville UKZN campus say they have treated two patients who have been injured during confrontations between students and police earlier this morning.

According to Emergency Medical Services’s Robert Mackenzie, one patient was a student, while the other was a police officer. A third patient was transported privately from the scene before paramedics arrived and they were not able to confirm this person’s injuries or condition.

Paramedics say that the police and private security companies are still at the scene. The situation seems to have calmed down from earlier this morning and many of the fires that were set have been extinguished.

Police and emergency are still standing by on the scene.
