Taxi owners threaten to block roads

Taxi owners march to the Durban City Hall.

A GROUP of taxi owners who are marching to the Durban City Hall have threatened to block all the roads after being blocked by the Metro Police and SAPS in the Durban CBD.

The taxi owners left from Pinetown in a convoy to drop off a memorandum at the Mayor’s office in City Hall.

This follows the go slow on Monday against the city’s Bus Rapid Transit System (BRT), which is part of the Go! Durban project.

Jabulani Mazibuko, PRO for KZN Top 6 Taxi Association, said they were marching peacefully to the Durban City Hall when they were stopped by police.

“We have not offended anyone and we are not fighting with them, we are on our way to drop off the memorandum at the Mayor’s office.

“If the police continue to abuse us we will tell all our taxis to block the roads,” said Mazibuko.
