Forensic scientist talks about justice

Dr David Klatzow is involved in a wide range of forensic activities and investigates many insurance matters using the full scope of forensic science.

RENOWNED author and forensic scientist, Dr David Klatzow, will speak at the next Friends of Kloof Library Forum at the Kloof Junior Primary Hall in Abelia Road, in Kloof on Monday 1 September at 6pm.

His talk is titled, Miscarriages of Justice. Dr David Klatzow is pre-eminent among few forensic science experts. His academic qualifications and his experience of more than 28 years are evident in his numerous appearances as a witness in many cases, and as an advisor to both plaintiffs and defendants.

His scientific knowledge and investigative talents have been used in high profile cases such as: the Helderberg crash, Guguletu Seven, Ashley Kriel, the Piet Retief massacre and the murder of Brett Keble.

The first private forensic laboratory in South Africa was established in 1984 by Dr Klatzow and this was used in many major political cases. He was intimately involved with Legal Resources Centre in their numerous attempts to curb the over-zealous activities of police and security police in the mid to late 80’s. Dr Klatzow investigated the shooting of Chris Hani and the attempted shooting and poisoning of Rev Frank Chikane. Dr Klatzow was instrumental in developing the defence which resulted in the subsequent acquittal of Tony Weaver on charges relating to reporting on the police in the matter of the Crossroads and Guguletu Seven.

During a period of 28 years, he has investigated more than 2 000 cases ranging from criminal matters to civil disputes. Dr Klatzow was also involved in examining police evidence in relation to the Inge Lotz murder and advising the family on these issues, resulting ultimately in a contribution in the acquittal of Mr Van Der Vyfer and the demonstration of fraudulent activity by the police in the prosecution of the case.

Presently, Dr Klatzow is involved in a wide range of forensic activities and investigates many insurance matters using the full scope of forensic science. He presently resides in Cape Town and operates a forensic practice dealing with these and many other matters on a day to day basis.

David’s latest book, Justice Denied will be available at the talk and will cost R250 each. Unfortunately there will be no credit card facilities.
