No arrests for alleged gym rape

THE NPA have taken possession of the docket and will review the case.

NO arrests have been made in connection with the alleged rape of the 15-year-old girl at the Westville Virgin Active Health Club on Saturday 16 August.

Captain Thulani Zwane, regional spokesman for the SAPS, could not confirm the age of the alleged rapist nor whether or not he had been questioned by the local police.

“The case is still under investigation and no arrests have been made,” said Zwane.

According to Natasha Ramkisson-Kara, the regional communications manager for the National Prosecuting Authority, the Senior Public Prosecution of the particular jurisdiction are now in possession of the docket.

“The docket will have to be studied before a decision is taken,” said Ramkisson-Kara.

The alleged rape was said to have taken place during the day in a change room at the gym. The management at the gym are also conducting an internal investigation and will hand over the findings to the SAPS.

According to gym-goers, the atmosphere has not changed but they did note that the Monday after the incident took place it was at its busiest and the locker rooms and floor were rife with theories and gossip.
