Man killed in M13 crash

A man was killed and woman left in a critical condition in a collision on the M13 near Hillcrest on Saturday, 23 August.

According to Werner Vermaak, communications manager for ER24, paramedics arrived on scene and found the light motor vehicle down an embankment and wedged up against a tree.

“On assessment, paramedics discovered that the driver had been pinned inside his vehicle after it struck a tree. Despite efforts made by the paramedics the man succumbed to his injuries. The woman lay next to the wrecked vehicle in a critical condition.”

Paramedics immediately treated the woman, providing her with advanced life support before transporting her to Hillcrest Hospital for urgent medical treatment.

Witnesses told paramedics that the vehicle had apparently swerved and rolled down an embankment before colliding with the tree.

The cause of the collision is not yet known but local authorities were on scene for further investigations.
