Police recover stolen car

The four men who were arrested are expected to appear in the Pinetown Magistrate's Court soon.

TWO Westville SAPS sector commanders, Constables Phillip Easterbrooke and Wynand Laatz arrested four men in a stolen car earlier this morning, Friday 15 August.

According to a report, the two officers were responding to a theft of motor vehicle complaint (a Toyota Avanza) near Westville Boys’ High School. They had just finished their docket and took a short drive around the school, when a member of the public pointed out four suspicious men in a blue Toyota Yaris.

The commanders followed the vehicle onto Jan Hofmeyr Road where the occupants refused to stop despite blue lights and sirens. Police chased the men into Attercliffe Road and then to Beverley Drive, where the driver lost control and the vehicle was jammed.

Once the men were safely under control, police checked the vehicle and discovered the Yaris had been stolen in Chatsworth. There was a tablet and handbag in the car which traced back to Pinetown where it had been stolen from a few hours earlier.

Police also found five cell phones, wire cutters, an ignition switch and a screw driver in the vehicle.

The men were arrested, charged and detained for possession of stolen property and car breaking implements. They are expected to appear in the Pinetown Magistrate’s Court soon.

Westville SAPS’s communications officer, Sgt Stephan Clark, was not available to comment further.
