Charity benefits from national showjumping champs

It was an exciting finish to the Harcourts SA national showjumping championships.

There was a good turnout for the Harcourts sponsored, SA national showjumping championships held at the Durban Shongweni Club from 6 to 10 August.

Spectators were in for a treat as riders and horses competed against one another with some tough and challenging courses built by course designer, Bernardo Costa Cabral from Portugal over the five days of stiff competition.

On Sunday, the top 24 qualifiers took part in the gruelling South African Championship 1.50m class. At the end of the two rounds, there were only 2 double clear rounds, Shaun Neill riding Clyde Z and Nicola Sime-Riley riding Sunny Park Stables Connoisseur. It was a nail biting finish but Nicola finished the jump off with a total of 4 penalties, leaving Shaun Neill victorious.

As an added bonus, the winner got to donate R20,000 through The Harcourts Foundation to a charity of their choice. Shaun’s chosen charity was the Vereeniging SPCA.

This is the fourth time that Shaun has won this title – twice on Gold Rush and now twice on the incredible Clyde Z.

Results were :

1st – Shaun Neill riding Clyde Z

2nd  – Nicola Sime-Riley on  Sunny Park Connoisseur

tie 3rd – Dion Boardman on Tanik Hune;  Jonathan Clarke on Felix Van De Mispelaere;  Nicola Sime and Sunny Park El Paso; Dominey Alexander and Discovery Enjoy 68 and  Jeanne Engela and Chanel van de Zeshoek.
