Residents urged to help with upgrades to Kloof trauma room

The KCPF is urging residents to help victims of crime by contributing to the Kloof trauma room.

The Kloof Community Police Forum are appealing to the community to assist with upgrading the trauma facility at the Kloof police station.

The two roomed prefab will be used to house residents who have been victims of crime and wish to take temporary shelter in a safe haven.

The Kloof Acutts Estate Agency team have painted the rooms, provide bedding, curtains, a bedside table, lamp, books, kettle and cups and have agreed to carpet the rooms as well as.

But the following items and assistance are still needed:

*Bears to give to children who have been affected by trauma (this project has been a huge success in Switzerland and takes the child’s mind off the traumatic incident)

* Care packages for rape victims – which includes panties, t-shirt, deodorant, tampons or pads.

* Basic help pack – tooth brush, toothpaste, soap, face cloth, deodorant and anything to soothe the victim and assist with basics should they need to stay overnight.

* Torches for search and rescue

* Training of trauma counsellors. The training is done at Open Door Crisis Centre at a cost of R1000 per person. The KCPF plans to increase its team of trauma counsellors who will assist with trauma call outs as well as counselling at the station.

“The KCPF will now join the ranks of a very limited number of police stations which have a fully functional trauma room. We are working on ensuring that there

will be a victim support team available to ease the suffering of victims of crime and/or domestic violence, so the training of trauma counsellors is vital,” said Nikki Mohlmann, on behalf of KCPF.

“We would be so grateful for any help you could give in assisting us in getting our project up and running.”
