Inchanga residents angered over boy’s (4) death

Residents took to the streets to protest for speedhumps after a 4-year-old boy was fatally hit by a taxi.

Furious Inchanga residents have called for speed humps to be installed after 4-year-old Minenhle Nkala was knocked over by a taxi on the township’s main road on Friday, 25 July at about 5.10pm.

The badly injured boy, was rushed by taxi to a local clinic and transferred to RK Khan Hospital where he later died.

Protesters took to the streets on the Friday and again on Monday, 28 July, making it difficult for teachers and pupils to get to their schools, forcing a number of schools to close for the day.

The residents are demanding for the speed humps to reduce the speed of traffic and prevent another tragedy from occurring.

Dennis Shozi, ward 4 councillor for the area, visited the family on the Monday and assured residents that the municipality was in the process of putting up the speed humps.

“A case of culpable homicide is being investigated by the Inchanga SAPS. No arrests have been made and investigations are continuing,” said Captain Thulani Zwane, media spokesman for SAPS.
