Connor vies for Mr Mzantsi Africa title

Mr KZN, Connor McLeod, has qualified to enter the national Mzantsi Africa Role Model and Ambassador three-day pageant in Cape Town from 10 to 13 December.

AFTER winning the title of Mr KZN, Westville resident, Connor McLeod, is now vying for the Mr Mzantsi Africa 2014 title.

According to the 22-year-old, when he won the Mr KZN title in March, he was invited to participate in the Mr Mzantsi Africa pageant, from 10 to 13 December.

Entry into this pageant is strictly by invitation only, which was an honour for Connor. If he wins, he will become a national title holder. The national Mzantsi Africa Role Model and Ambassador three-day pageant is hosted in Cape Town annually and includes social outings, team building activities, design workshop, a fashion and talent show, and training by Role Models South Africa. The theme for the pageant is African Kaleidoscope, in celebration of blending together the country’s diversity of cultures.

Role Models South Africa launched the Mzantsi Africa pageant in order to establish a country-wide network of well-groomed individuals to support charitable causes. The contestants are required to fulfil specific tasks during the run up to the gala event and the winners are obligated to continue with charitable fundraising during their year of reign.

Connor currently enjoys supporting local charities such as the Kloof and Highway SPCA and Ezakheni Schools4SA, which is an organisation that builds schools and supplies funds for children’s education.

Connor only started participating in pageants last year, however he is more passionate about teaching people how to swim at Action McLeod Swimming in Glenwood. Connor is also a national open swimmer who competed against big names such as Chad le Clos.

“If I win this next pageant, I plan to use my skills and knowledge to educate more people, specifically rural swimming clubs about the importance of knowing how to swim, especially for those living on the coast,” said Connor.

Connor is also aspiring to be a fitness model and hopes to enter the World Body Fitness Federation next year.

Connor’s challenge for this pageant is to complete his charity collection form. He will have to pay a compulsory cash sponsorship of R750 to participate in the pageant, thereafter he’s entitled to keep 50 per cent of any cash he is gets sponsored with to pay for travel and accommodation expenses. The rest of the money will go towards the charity chosen by Role Models SA as well as a charity of his choice.
