Pupils march for CANSA

Atholl Heights Primary School pupils recently hosted a CANSA fundraising and awareness event.

EMOTIONS ran high as Atholl Heights Primary School hosted a CANSA awareness and fundraising event on Friday 25 July.

The pupils, grouped into teams, created flags and marched around their school’s rugby field in honour of those who have been affected by cancer. The flags were either decorated with the names of survivors and those that have passed away, or inspirational messages.

According to Anelisa Msimang, the CANSA health programme coordinator, the aim of the event was to raise awareness and funds. “Walking around the field symbolized the never ending battle of those living with cancer. The children walked in honour of people who have had to face the constant adversity and pain due to cancer,” she said.

Various CANSA merchandise was sold on the day to help raise funds for the NPOs various projects.

At 5.30pm the pupils began lighting the candles in the luminary bags that were laid out on the field. The pupils then continued marching around the beautifully illuminated field chanting and cheering.
