Clothing company workers join strike

Frame Polypropylene workers want a 10 per cent increase.

FRAME Polypropylene workers who are members of SACTWU have downed tools today after failure of reaching an agreement between workers and employers.

The employees who work in Valley View Road, New Germany under the cotton sector said they want a 10 per cent increase.

Shop steward, Sibongile Buthelezi said after the negotiations the employers have promised them a 7.8 per cent.

“We want a 10 per cent package, and in this 7.8 per cent they are offering us, it includes 1 per cent for provident fund, night shift allowance, HIV/AIDS funds and long service award.

“This is a legal strike and we will continue to strike outside the gate until they give us what we want,” said Buthelezi.

The Pinetown area has seen widespread protests since NUMSA workers went on strike this month.
