PHILANI Dlamini (22) was sentenced to 10 years imprisonment at the Pinetown Magistrate’s Court on Thursday 17 July, after he was found guilty of raping an eight-year-old victim in Clermont.
The incident occurred on 14 June 2014 at about 12.30pm. The victim was sitting at her home when Dlamini arrived wanting to borrow a wheelbarrow.
On his way out he asked the victim and her sister to accompany him out of the gate as he alleged he was afraid of the dogs.
Dlamini chased the victim’s sister away and took the victim to his home, where he raped her.
The victim reported the matter to her mother and a case of rape was opened at the Kwadabeka Police Station.
Dlamini was then arrested on the same day and was sent to Fort Napier Hospital for a mental assessment.
