GO! Durban expands Pinetown construction

Highway residents are forewarned that top soil and gravel will be stockpiled at a busy Pinetown intersection.

AS the GO!Durban construction continues throughout the Pinetown area, Highway residents must take note that construction materials will be temporarily stockpiled at the intersection of Crompton Street and Sunnyside Lane.

The initiative is to provide a more efficient, safer and faster public transport service for Durban citizens and the eThekwini Municipality is currently constructing a section of the Integrated Rapid Public Transport Network (IRPTN) through Pinetown.

Carlos Esteves, the deputy head of road system management, said the stockpile of gravel and top soil will take place during the coming week and that the goods will be used later in the construction process.

He noted that another site may become available within the next few weeks, and when it does become available, any material stockpiled at the intersection will be taken to the new site and the original site will be rehabilitated.

“Every effort will be made to ensure that there is a minimum impact on the community in the area. Among other things, restrictions will be placed on stockpile heights, measures will be taken to control dust and screens will be erected.

“The City greatly appreciates your patience in this regard and apologises for any inconvenience this may cause you,” said Esteves.
