Two-year-old injured in horrific N3 crash

Ten people were seriously injured in a two-vehicle collision on the N3.

TEN people including five children were seriously injured after two cars collided on the N3 West bound near Sherwood just before 12pm today.

Paramedics found a mother carrying her two year old baby asking for urgent help.

Rescue Care Paramedics operations director, Garrith Jamieson said the crew immediately called for more ambulances and advanced life support assistance as there were five young children between two years old and seven years old who had all been seriously injured.

“Five adults had also sustained serious injuries. They were treated and stabilised at the scene before being transported to various Durban hospitals.

Jamieson added that at this stage it is unclear what caused the collision however it is alleged that the one car had broken down on the highway and the second car collided into it.

“SAPS were at the scene and will be investigating the incident further,” said Jamieson.

Traffic was severely affected as emergency personnel worked to clear the accident scene and only one lane was open.
