Latest Field’s Hill crash ‘could have been averted’

A recent crash on the infamous Field's Hill has raised questions about the road regulations along the route.

QUESTIONS have been raised about the road regulations along Field’s Hill after another horrific accident involving a truck and a taxi on Wednesday afternoon.

Eighteen people were injured when a taxi and a truck collided at the intersection on the M13 and Richmond Road.

The accident happened at the same intersection where 24 people died in September last year when a truck ploughed through five vehicles.

“The Provincial Department of Transport has put up the signage that was promised almost a year ago, however every one of the new signs remains covered,” said ward 10 councillor, Rick Crouch

Crouch also questioned the reason for the delay.

“What is the MEC waiting for? Whatever it is, it must be fast tracked. This accident could have been averted if the new signage had not been covered and the old signage had been removed.”

The MEC had also promised to restrict heavy trucks on the route.

“I continue to ask the MEC what he is waiting for, more deaths? This is a classic case of tombstone legislation,” said Rick Crouch.
