Forensic teams scan highway drug den

Investigations into one of country's biggest drug busts continue.

Drug bust three appear in court

Highway drug lab exposed

THE home where more than R2-billion worth of drugs were confiscated is currently being scanned by forensic teams.

The Highway Mail visited the house earlier this morning and was greeted by two metre high walls and electric fencing surrounding the property.

On the surface there were no signs that only days before, drug manufacturers had occupied the property. The simple gardens were well kept and the lawns manicured to help create the facade and allow it to blend in with the upscale neighbourhood.

According to Colonel Jay Naicker, deputy director of communications in KZN, who was at the house when the Highway Mail went to investigate, forensic teams are currently taking fingerprints and are thoroughly searching through the three houses on the property for more drugs. He noted that it would take a few more days for the forensic teams to finalise their report.

Three men  arrested in the drug bust appeared in the Pinetown Magistrate’s Court yesterday.

The magistrate ordered that the men aged 24, 58 and 57 may not be identified in any manner until the next court appearance due to on-going investigations.

The case was remanded to Tuesday 8 July.
