Alleged credit card fraudster arrested

A 22-year-old man was arrested in Wyebank and was charged with possession of counterfeit cards.

Officers from various SAPS departments and other security units joined forces to arrest a fraudster who was believed to be producing counterfeit cards on Tuesday morning.

The information gathered by the Durban K9 Unit, the Currency Detection team, the Flying Squad and Bank Forensic Investigators led them to a home in Wyebank. The group entered the home and searched the premises.

“Officers found a card encoding device, counterfeit cards, a laptop with card cloning software and notes with various bank card details,” said Captain Thulani Zwane, KZN media spokesman for the SAPS.

He noted that a 22-year-old man was arrested and charged with possession of counterfeit cards. He will appear in the Pinetown Magistrate’s Court soon.

The KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Mmamonnye Ngobeni, commended the teams for their hard work that led to the arrest of the man.

“We will work together with other private companies in the fight against such crimes in the province. We will make use of all the resources available to us, such as our currency detection dogs, to get rid of those who are involved in bank fraud,” she said.
