Dad gets life sentence for rape

A 43-YEAR-old man was sentenced to life imprisonment for raping his teenage daughter.

The man from Embo in Hillcrest was convicted and sentenced in the Pinetown Magistrate’s Court last Wednesday.

KZN spokesman, Cpt Thulani Zwane said, ” It is alleged that in December 2012 the victim’s mother reported the case of rape after she discovered that her daughter was raped several times by the accused in her home from 2010.

“The accused was then arrested and the bail application was denied by court,” said Zwane.

KwaZulu-Natal provincial commissioner, Lieutenant General Commissioner Mmamonnye Ngobeni welcomed the heavy sentence handed down to the accused.

“This will serve as an example to those rapists who target and abuse our vulnerable women and children,” she said.

Ngobeni commended the good work done by Hillcrest detective members that led to the conviction of the accused.
