Fire victim expresses her gratitude

The Mkhize family, who lost almost everything in a fire, would like to thank everyone who helped them.

Fire leaves family homeless

THE Mkhize family in Wyebank lost all hope when their house burnt down earlier this year.

Highway Mail wrote a story about the family’s ordeal. Idah Mkhize who is now a happy woman said she can not begin to express her gratitude to all the people who assisted her.

“After the story came out in the paper, I received such an overwhelming response from organisations, churches and community members.

“We sleep comfortable now as we have a roof over our heads, we have beds, clothes, furniture, food and blankets.

When their house burnt down Idah said it was difficult to accept that the house which she built from scratch was destroyed within minutes.

The Mkhize’s have been residing in that area since 1990. They were living in a shack and when Idah resigned from work and she used her money to build her family a five-room house.

“I was not at home when I received a call from my neighbour who told me that my house was on fire. I asked them to call the fire department. When I arrived at my house everything was burnt and the only thing that was saved were the sofas,” said Idah.

To this day Idah said they have no idea what caused the fire.

“There is a woman that even donated a new electricity meter as ours was damaged. The only problem we have now is that the electricity department has not installed it and we are still living in a dark house.”

Idah said she received so many clothes, the ones they do not use she donated to another family who were also fire victims.

“I am truly grateful to all the people who assisted us during our time of grieving. May God bless you all,” she said.
