Ashlen off to Bali for bio olympiad

Star College congratulated Ashlen and wished him well in representing the school, himself and the country at the International Bio Olympiad in Indonesia in July.

ASHLEN Govender a Grade 12 pupil from Star College Boys’ High School secured a place in the team of four that has been selected to represent South Africa at the International Biology Olympiad in Bali, Indonesia from 2 July to 13 July.

Ashlen was extremely excited about his performance when he came first in the selection exam that was written in April. Each pupil had to raise R25 000 to cover the cost of the trip and he is most grateful to all his sponsors that have contributed to making this trip possible.

Ashlen is proud to represent his country and is also very excited about the opportunities of taking part in an Olympiad at this level. The Grade 12 pupil finds biology fundamental in understanding how humans function on a daily basis.

Ashlen believes that in order to succeed, one must have a clear vision. “We must set goals and work towards it diligently,” he said.

His biology teacher, Mr Zafer Zor has nothing but praises for the high achiever. “Ashlen is a kind boy who is well respected in class. His humble spirit is refreshing considering his excellent results,” said Zor.

Ashlen said he also gained a lot of inspiration from one of the world’s leading authority and author, John Kehoe, of the book, Mind Power Into the 21st Century, whom he was fortunate to meet in person on two occasions during a mind power seminar.

Ashlen in his spare time or his short breaks loves training and is health conscious with his diet. Being an adrenalin junkie, he enjoys rugby, rock climbing and mixed martial arts.

Star College is extremely proud of Ashlen and wish him all the best in representing the school, himself and the country in July.
