Fire safety tips from SACAN

Make sure you protect yourselves and your properties against runaway fires.

WITH several fires occurring throughout the greater Durban area on the evening of 4 June, SACAN has issued the following fire safety tips:

If you live on a property with large portions of open land, ensure that you have adequate fire breaks, so that if the grass or vegetation does catch alight, the risk of it reaching your home will be decreased.

If you have an external fuel source such as a tank of petrol or diesel, you should put in a break specifically to protect it, thereby reducing the danger of combustion.

Avoid high-risk behaviour like burning refuse without a permit. Illegal fires pose a threat to you and those nearby and if caught, perpetrators will be punished.
