Hillcrest roads revamp continues

The majority of the work is scheduled to begin at the end of May to be completed at the end of August.

THE Roads Provision Department is set to continue the rehabilitation project on the following roads in the Ward 10 area of Hillcrest.

The project will involve removing the existing road layers and replacing them with new or overlaying on the existing road surface. In order to maintain a safe environment for both road users and construction workers, traffic will be controlled with STOP/GO controls.

Roads that will be rehabilitated include, Warrior Road (from Delamore Road to the cul de sac), Ntabeni Road (from Warrior Road to Hilldene Road), Sandy Lane (from Hilldene Road to the cul de sac) and Delamore Road (from Hospital Road to the cul de sac).

“Some work may have already commenced however the majority of the work is scheduled to commence at the end of May and the completion date is set for the end of August, depending on weather conditions and the availability of special materials,” said Rick Crouch, Ward 10 councillor.

Residents and commuters are urged to exercise extreme caution while travelling through the work zone and to exercise patience.

“Some residents have expressed dissatisfaction with regards to the project and questioned the reasons for conducting the project at the same time as other road works. The fact is that the budget has already been allocated and needs to be spent before the end of the year. Unfortunately, it is nearly impossible to co-ordinate the projects with other wards, as they have their own budgets, schedules and deadlines. The project will improve the roads for all the residents,” said Crouch.
