Man survives 11 000 volt jolt

A Waterfall substation caught fire when a construction worker struck a power cable by accident.

A CONSTRUCTION worker survived a 11 000 volt shock after he accidentally struck a power cable with a pickaxe on Inanda Road, several hours ago.

Steven King, of Waterfall Crime Watch and SecureLink, reported that the incident caused one of the power relays to explode at a nearby sub station, and some residents have since been left without power.

“I have been informed that the power has been restored in some of the areas. Officials had to divert power to an alternative relay,” said King.

The man is reportedly in a stable condition and has been transported to the Hillcrest Private Hospital.
