TWO alleged hijackers and a security officer came face to face in a shootout outside Maxidor in Pinetown at 6.50am.

According to Anthony Swart, marketing manager for Proforce Security in Pinetown, one of the guarding managers at Proforce Security was doing a opening at Maxidor in Pinetown. While he was parked in his own vehicle, he spotted three suspicious men sitting in a maroon Toyota watching the building.

“Two of the men in the Toyota climbed out of the vehicle and approached a staff member from Maxidor who was in his white Corsa bakkie. The security guard said he noted something was amiss and climbed out of his vehicle. The two men then pulled out their guns and opened fire at Vuyo, who then returned fire,” said Swart.

He added that the two men were shot – one escaped with the driver in the Toyota and the other fell to the ground. The security guard was shot in his left thigh and was taken to Crompton Hospital immediately by ProForce Security. Netcare paramedics treated the alleged hijacker at the scene.

It is believed that one of the men was shot in the leg and the other presumed shot in the chest.

“The guard is currently recovering at Crompton Hospital. We are grateful for his prompt response when he spotted the suspicious men. He is now seen as a hero,” said Swart.
