Dam crash driver charged with murder

The driver in the Mooi River dam tragedy has been charged with murder.

Dam drained as search for children continues

The driver of the bakkie that drove into a farm dam near Mooi River on Monday, killing five school pupils, now faces murder charges.

The 24-year-old driver apparently lost control of the bakkie overloaded with close to 30 school children, resulting in the death of five of the children.

Rescue workers worked tirelessly on Tuesday to recover the deceased’s bodies from the thick sludge of the dam.

Twenty four other children who managed to free themselves from the dam were treated for shock and hypothermia.

The driver has been charged with murder, attempted murder and reckless and negligent driving and is set to appear in court tomorrow.
