Vote counting reaches halfway mark

The ANC leads in the national elections with almost half of the national votes counted.

THE results of the 2014 general elections have been steadily flowing in at the National Results Operating Centre in Pretoria.

Just under half of the ballots have been counted thus far, with the African National Congress currently taking the lead, followed by the Democratic Alliance and then the Economic Freedom Fighters .

Currently the ANC has 62.24 per cent of the votes, the DA 23.63 pr cent, the EFF 4.63 per cent, IFP 2.29 per cent and Cope is at 0.79 per cent.

The latest KwaZulu-Natal provincial results show based on 20.54% of valid votes showed the ANC leading the province with over 60 percent of the vote with the  IFP, DA and NFP trailing getting around 10 per cent each.

According to the Independent Electoral Commission, 48.8% percent of the votes or  10873 of 22263 voting districts have been counted.

The total number of valid votes counted thus far is 7 144 805 out of 7 248 888 votes cast. As votes are counted, the leader board at the Results Operating Centre is continuously updated.

Last night chairperson of the IEC,  Pansy Tlakula said the counting process would take place under the watchful eyes of party agents and observers.
