Hillcrest roads get an upgrade

Road works will be conducted on several roads in Hillcrest (Ward 8) to eliminate potholes and cracks.

A ROAD rehabilitation project has been scheduled for several roads in the western region of Hillcrest (Ward 8).

The Roads Provision Department will be removing the existing road layers and replacing them with new layers, to improve the state and safety of the roads.

According to Deshnee Govender, the deputy head of Roads Provision Department, construction has already begun on Cliff Road, Mocking Chat Lane, Mill Road (from Inanda Road to Old Main Road) and Ridge Road (from Inanda Road to Springside Road).

Other roads that will be included in the rehabilitation project include Stonewall Road, Hilltop Road, Shortlands Avenue, Plantation Road, Wishart Road, Albinia Road and Loop Road. The construction on these roads will commence once the previously mentioned roads are completed.

It is estimated that the construction will be completed by the end of June. “The completion date is subject to the weather and availability of construction material, such as asphalt and bitumen,” said Govender.

Construction will also start in Springside Road (from Ridge Road to Carol Avenue) in mid-April and it is estimated that these road works will be completed by the end of August.

Michael Shelembe, councillor of Ward 8, said the rehabilitation road works were “a positive development, which will help eliminate potholes.”

Residents and commuters are urged to be patient and to exercise caution while travelling through the road works.

The traffic will be controlled with stop and go signals, to maintain a safe environment for commuters, residents and construction workers.
