Hillcrest murderer sentenced to life

Justice was served when a man was sentenced to life imprisonment for murder.

Nkanyiso Patrick Ndlovu (32) was sentenced to life imprisonment for the murder of an elderly Embo resident.

On 2 June 2011, at approximately 6pm in the Embo area, Hillcrest, 72-year-old Mhawukeleni Vilakazi was enjoying dinner with his family, when an armed Ndlovu entered his house. Vilakazi was shot and sustained multiply guns shot wounds to the body and died at the scene.

A case of murder was opened for investigation at the Hillcrest SAPS. Hillcrest SAPS detectives conducted intensive investigations that led to the arrest of the suspect and the recovery of an AK rifle. The firearm was taken for ballistic tests and the results came out positive linking the accused to the murder case.

He made several court appearances and was subsequently convicted and sentenced this week by the Durban High Court to life imprisonment for murder.

KwaZulu-Natal provincial commissioner, Lieutenant General Mmamonnye Ngobeni commended the diligent work done by the members of Hillcrest SAPS.

“This will send a strong message to criminals that the SAPS has adopted a zero crime tolerance in all sorts of crime,” he said.
