Five injured in Cato Ridge crash

Five people were injured after the driver lost control and crashed down an embankment.

Five people were injured when the Volkswagen Golf they were travelling in overturned several times and crashed down an embankment on the R103 in Cato Ridge on Easter Sunday.

When paramedics from ER24 and EMRS arrived on the scene, they found the vehicle down the embankment with all of the occupants outside of the vehicle. Three of the occupants were ejected from the vehicle during the rollover while members of the community pulled the other two out of the wreckage.

Two of the occupants sustained serious injuries while the others sustained moderate injuries. They were all treated on the scene before being transported by ambulance to RK Khan and Edendale hospital respectively.

It is believed the driver lost control over the vehicle while navigating around a bend on the R103. The incident was handed over to the local authorities to establish the exact cause.
