Newborn survives car crash

A four-day-old baby was injured in a crash on Easter Sunday.

A FOUR-DAY-OLD baby was treated by Rescue Care paramedics after she was involved in a vehicle collision on Easter Sunday on Spine Road in Westville.

According to Garrith Jamieson, spokesman for Rescue Care, two of its paramedics, Brandon Danks and Mfundo Luthuli, arrived to find the baby being carried in her mother’s arms.

“They quickly assessed the baby and found she had sustained minor injuries. They were cautious and placed the baby in a specialised spinal support structure to prevent any further injury,” said Jamieson.

After she was stabilised, she was transported to a nearby hospital for further treatment.

The cause of the accident was unclear but the local SAPS are currently investigating.
