Bakkies collide in Pinetown

250 litres of hydraulic fluid was spilled during the collision.

TWO bakkies collided at the intersection of Kings Road and Mellor Road in Pinetown just after noon today.

An Isuzu bakkie carrying hydraulic fluids for Megaphase Lubricants overturned in the collision and landed on its roof. It spilled 250 litres of hydraulic fluid on Mellor Road.

A fireman from eThekwini Metro who was at the scene, said that the spillage was very dangerous for other motorists travelling on that road as the slippery fluid could cause another accident. Firemen are currently covering the spillage with sand and hope to reopen the road in an hour.

A police officer at the scene said that reports indicated that the Bantam was travelling on Mellor Road and the Isuzu on Kings Road. Police believe that one of the parties may have attempted to jump the robot when the collision occurred, but the incident remains under investigation.

The driver of the Isuzu bakkie was injured during the collision. He was treated at the scene by EMRS paramedics and then taken to hospital. The other driver was not injured.
