Grandfather appears in court for rape
Man allegedly raped his granddaughter (9) while her grandmother was in hospital.
A 70-YEAR-OLD man accused of raping his nine-year-old granddaughter appeared in the Pinetown Magistrate’s Court on Thursday.
It is alleged that the victim who lives with both her grandparents was raped when her grandmother was admitted to hospital.
Pinetown SAPS communications officer, Lt Bongumusa Manqele said it is alleged that the grandfather began raping the girl from July last year, which continued until this year.
“The girl told her grandmother in January about the rape and social workers were also informed.
“On Tuesday 1 April, a case of rape was opened at the Pinetown police station by the mother,” said Manqele.
The grandfather was arrested on the same day by members of Pinetown Family Violence Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit.
