Frail care residents receive special treat

Naomi Veschini holds a tribute concert, in honour of her late mom Stella van Niekerk-Jones, for the residents at the frail care in Le Domaine, Hillcrest.

OLD folk at the frail care at Le Domaine in Hillcrest were treated to a special tribute concert in honour of former resident, Stella van Niekerk-Jones, recently.

Naomi Veschini, Stella’s daughter, said she had planned this concert for her mom and friends at the frail care last November, since they always complained they were too weak to go anywhere and be entertained. But sadly four days before the concert, Stella broke her hip and died. Naomi postponed the concert but remembered her mother’s last words, “If I’m not around, please do the concert for all my friends and patients at the frail care. They are looking so forward to it.”

Entertainment was provided by ballroom and Latin dancers, Madison Bromfield and Dylan Botes, piper Gordon Capper, the Highway Men’s Choir, singer and MC Daryl Scott, ballet dancer Donne Coetzee and Latin dancers, Ethan Bromfield and Joanne Chiang.

After the concert, Stella’s great grandchildren handed out Easter eggs to all the residents at the frail care and everyone enjoyed a sumptuous tea party afterwards.

Naomi thanked all the entertainers for giving up their time to put on a concert for the residents in frail care.

“These residents really enjoyed it, smiling and clapping along the way. This concert really gave them some joy, laughter and happiness,” said Veschini.
