Keryn shines bright on stage

Westville Senior Primary School has selected Keryn Scott as its Spar Star of the Month.

WESTVILLE Senior Primary School has selected Keryn Scott, a Grade 4 pupil, as the school’s SPAR Star of the Month.

Keryn has been cast as Tessie, one of the orphans in the KickstArt production of Annie, to be staged at the Elizabeth Sneddon Theatre in Durban from Sunday 23 May to Sunday 15 June.

More than 80 girls auditioned for a part in the classic musical, in January. They were required to sing a song they had prepared, and perform a monologue. The hopefuls were also taught a dance and were then required to perform it.

After each performance a number of girls were eliminated, and in the end the director, Steven Stead, was left with his chosen cast. Rehearsals are set to begin in April.

Two girls have been cast for each role as the pupils may only act on alternate evenings.

While in Grade 3, at Westville Junior Primary School, Keryn was a member of the choir, and participated in the Speech and Drama Festival. At the festival she won a bursary to attend acting classes at a drama school. Keryn chose to attend the Rising Star Performing Arts Academy in Westville. She also earned one of the main roles in the school’s play in 2013, and was awarded the ‘Best Actress’ trophy at the school’s prizegiving.
