Mustang reunited with owners

Mustang's owners thanks Highway Mail and Ashley Residents Neighbourhood Watch for their assistance in locating their beloved pet.

MUSTANG, an American Pitbull stolen from its home in New Germany on 28 February, was reunited with its owners last Friday.

According to Mustang’s owner, Shannon Munn, he received several responses to the article, Thieves target hounds, published in the Highway Mail last Thursday. Two of the responses turned out to be the correct information and after a picture was sent to Shannon via SMS, he put the wheels in motion to go about retrieving his dog out of KwaDabeka.

“The Ashley Residents Neighbourhood Watch were kind enough to lend support and also notified the Kloof and Highway SPCA to accompany us into KwaDabeka. We were to go in on Friday morning but at 11.15pm on Thursday, I received a call from yet another KwaDabeka resident who informed me that he had my dog in his possession. He informed me that he had bought it from a teenage boy and didn’t realise it was stolen,” said Shannon

He said they agreed to meet at a petrol station in Shepstone Road on Friday morning, with the Ashley Residents Neighbourhood Watch. His dog was recovered and the temporary owner briefly questioned. The Kloof and Highway SPCA and the neighbourhood watch are still investigating the incident.

Shannon said at first sight his dog’s condition looked to be okay but after watching him for the last few days, he could see that he has undergone some form of abuse. Although he is not skinny, he has lost all of his muscle mass and appears to be in pain in the neck and back area.

“For the first two days he also seemed to be drugged in some way but that is now wearing off. As a family we are incredibly happy that he has made it back to us and we would like to say a special thank you to the Ashley Residents Neighbourhood Watch members for their assistance and also to The Highway Mail for running last week’s article as without this we probably still wouldn’t have our boy back,” said Shannon.
