Help Thabani make his dream come true

Young man requires funds to further his studies.

STREETWISE, a shelter for homeless children in Mariannhill is appealing to the community for assistance to help a student at their centre to further his studies.

The non-profit organisation provides shelter, food, clothes, a loving environment and schooling for neglected and abandoned children.

Coordinator Sister Helena McKinney said Thabani is a brilliant young man who started school in Grade 7.

“When he asked to be put in Grade 7 after the bridging course we offer here at the shelter, the teachers thought it was impossible for him to catch up, but he did.

“He left his home in 2005 as he had some family issues and sought assistance at the police station.

“They took him to a shelter where he was exposed to bad things as the shelter was disorganised. He then came to live with us after our outreach officer visited the shelter where he lived to look for children who were willing to be educated,” she said.

Thabani has completed his first year at UKZN, Howard College where he studied Criminology and Forensic Studies.

“Thabani requires money to register as there is still an outstanding fee from last year. Having a proper education and his goal to make something of his life removed him from the streets and it breaks my heart to see that dream going down the drain,” said Sister Helena.

If you would like to assist Thabani, call Sister Helena on 079 395 2180 or you can make a deposit into the Streetwise bank account. Standard Bank, Account number: 051929406, branch code: 045626.
