Three storey fall leads to serious injury
Man falls from three storey building at a residential construction site.
A THREE storey fall from a house in Westville left a man in critical condition on Monday 10 February. According to Derrick Banks, of ER24, paramedics responded to the scene at a residential construction site where they found a man in his late 50s lying on his back being comforted by his colleagues. “We are unsure how the man landed, but it was reported that he was moved into a more comfortable position,” said Banks. Eye witnesses reported that the man had lost his footing while working on the building’s veranda and fell. Banks reported that the man had suffered severe injuries to his back and his leg. “The patient reported that he had no feeling from his sternum (mid-chest) down to his feet. He had also sustained a broken leg,” said Banks. Subsequently, rapid advance life support was given to the man and he was carefully, and completely immobilised on a spine board and transported to the St Augustine’s hospital in Durban.
