Jealous girlfriend found guilty of assault

A woman was sentenced to three months imprisonment after she burnt her boyfriend with boiling water.

A WOMAN from St Wendolins was found guilty of assault with grievous bodily harm (GBH) after she threw a kettle of boiling water on her boyfriend.

Communications officer for the Mariannhill SAPS, W/O Trevor Govender said, “On 16 December, 2013 at about 8pm, Simon Dladla was sitting on his bed showing their three-year-old son pictures of his relatives when Sibongile Cynthia Buthelezi, his girlfriend saw a picture of a girl who works with Simon on his phone.

“When she questioned him about the photo he told her it is none of her business and ignored her.

“At 4am, she boiled water in a kettle for Simon to take a bath. The argument about the photo continued and in a fit of rage Buthelezi took the kettle of boiling water and threw it on Dladla.

“She then ran away with the child and Dladla sustained serious burn wounds to his body.

“Buthelezi was arrested on 23 December by the investigating officer, W/O Jacko Dupraj,” said Govender.

The case was remanded. She was found guilty and sentenced to three months imprisonment and was given an option to pay a R3000 fine.

Govender stated that men are also victims of domestic violence and they must not be afraid to ask for help as the law is also on their side.
