Local couple celebrates golden years

Kellys celebrate 50 years of wedded bliss.

KLOOF couple, David and Fay Kelly celebrated their 50th anniversary on Saturday.

David said after 50 years his love for Faye is still very strong.

David was attracted to Fay from the first time he saw her dancing in the Elizabeth Hotel, Port Elizabeth in the melodrama 1962, and asked the villain, John Malcomess to introduce him to her.

At first Faye was not interested, she just turned her back on him. David was very certain about his feeling for Faye and told his friend, Bruce Brodie, that one day he will marry her.

They went out for the first time on Friday 13 September 1963, got engaged on 1 November 1963 and were married at St Mary’s Cathedral in Port Elizabeth on Saturday 25 January 1964.

They then moved to KwaZulu-Natal on 1 February 1969 when their only son Patrick was just two months old.

The couple has one granddaughter, Paige, who is 16 years old.
