UPDATE: Five men arrested for Mpumalanga murder

Task teak makes a breakthrough in Mpumalanga murder case.

POLICE have arrested five men for the shooting which claimed the lives of six people and left two others injured in Sankontsha, Mpumalanga.

The eight men were shot at a house in Sankontsha while having a party. Five men died on the scene and one died in hospital.

Police reported that the deceased were wanted for number of murder and armed robbery cases in the Mpumalanga area and two of them were expected to appear in court next month as they were out on bail.

KZN police spokesman, Col Jay Naicker said, “A task team consisting of the Hawks, Crime Intelligence and Mpumalanga detectives made a breakthrough when they arrested five men aged between 22 and 27 years old for the massacre at Mpumalanga at the weekend.”

Col Naicker added, “Two guns, a shotgun and a 38 revolver were recovered during their arrest. The five men were taken in for questioning by detectives who are investigating the case pending their court appearance. The men are facing charges of murder, attempted murder and possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition. Investigations are continuing and detectives are working in collaboration with Magma security investigators to bring the perpetrators to book,” said Naicker.
