Taxi owner arrested for attempted murder

Wyebank taxi owner appears in court after being charged with attempted murder.

A 42-year-old taxi owner appeared in the Pinetown Magistrate’s Court last Wednesday after he was charged with attempted murder.

According to Pinetown SAPS communications officer, Lt Bongumusa Manqele, the man was arrested at his home in Wyebank by Pinetown detectives.

“It is alleged that on 25 November last year at about 8.30pm, the victim (53) had just arrived at his house in Wyebank when he was attacked by the man who was armed with a gun. It is believed a fight broke out between the two men and the victim was shot six times. He was taken to hospital for treatment,” said Lt Manqele.

“It is further alleged that the victim and the man who shot him are taxi owners in one taxi association. During the arrest, a Norinco pistol with eight rounds of ammunition believed to be used during the attack was seized from the man,” added Lt Manqele.

The gun will be sent for ballistic tests to establish whether it was used in the commission of any other crimes in the province.
