4000 shoppers on day one of Oxford Hillcrest opening!

Oxford Hillcrest is proving popular.

THE opening of the Hillcrest Oxford freshmarket store, surpassed all expectations with over 4 000 paying customers and their families visiting the store on the opening day.

Sales recorded exceeded those of the first Oxford freshmarket store which opened on the Bluff eighteen months ago as eager shoppers descended on the brand new store in their droves. Foot traffic recorded over 12 000 (shoppers and their families) passed through the doors.

“We have been phenomenally well received in Hillcrest and we believe it is because finally there is a retailer giving customers what they want – a one stop shop with good quality and good prices,” said CEO, Brett Latimer.

The Hillcrest Oxford freshmarket store which includes a traditional- style butchery, a massive green- grocer and a grocery hall is a smaller, temporary “pop-up” version of the final store which is due for completion in 2014.

To ensure safety of their customers at all times Oxford freshmarket are installing security cameras throughout the shop and car guards to monitor the parking areas.

“Our customers’ safety is a priority for us. We are working on the best security system with ProForce Security and there is a permanent Security Supervisor on the property at all times,” said Latimer.

Additional lighting is also currently being installed in the parking areas for afterhours shopping. Additional parking areas, behind the Engen garage, have also been allocated for shoppers.

The launch of the Hillcrest store follows closely on the heels of the first Oxford Liquors which opened on the lower level earlier this year offering customers a massive selection at the lowest possible prices. The response to the store in its first month has also outdone all expectations since opening on 31 August 2013.

Further Oxford freshmarket stores are to be opened in Chatsworth, Amanzimtoti and Pinetown within the next two years, with plans on the cards to open further stores in Richards Bay, the Western Cape, Port Elizabeth and Gauteng.
